cPanel DNS Only, now cant install PHP, MySQL etc
|Posted by o-dog, 07-18-2009, 05:11 PM|
|Hi, i am running a VPS and recently installed cPanel DNS Only so it can operate as a standalone DNS server.
I would also like to serve standard webpages on it via apache and php, i therefore tired to install php, mysql etc via 'yum install php' but it says there is no package to be installed.
Has the cPanel DNS only install done someting to the yum config? I have installed Yum Priorities plugin, and my repos files are as follows:
Does anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks in advance.

|I think i answered my own question...
root@stripe [~]# grep exclude /etc/yum.conf
exclude=apache* bind-chroot courier* dovecot* exim* httpd* kernel kernel-xen kernel-smp kernel-pae kernel-PAE kernel-SMP kernel-hugemem mod_ssl* mysql* nsd* perl* php* proftpd* pure-ftpd* ruby* spamassassin* squirrelmail*
Seems cPanel DNS Only set these... i might just upgrade it to a fully fledged cPanel install then.

|It is not advisable to use yum when you have cPanel install installed in your server. You have a lot of inbuilt cPanel scripts to serve you better with this.
You can use /scripts/easyapache to compile Apache and PHP in the server.

|Hi thanks for the reply.
Does /scripts/easyapache work for cPanel DNS Only?
Basically i want to host secondary nameserver and also a few websites with apache (a support desk and perhaps cacti), in summary i dont need fully fledged cPanel access for clients i can add the entries for virtual hosts in apache myself.
Is this advisable? Should i just go ahead and get a full blown WHM cPanel license?
